- I recently saw the movie Collateral starring Jamie Foxx and Tom Cruise and was inspired to write a blog relating to an interesting scene. For those who have not seen the movie Max (Jamie Foxx) is a cabbie that has the misfortune of transporting a contract killer (Tom Cruise) to do five hits. He is in a position of vulnerability since there is nothing he can do to get out of this situation.
- The character of Max intrigued me throughout the movie. It did because it reminds me of how we are as Christians. Max had a dream; a dream of creating Island Limos the "ultimate experience" in transportation. He planned and wanted to make sure everything was perfect. He wanted to make sure the clientele list was right, the Limos where secure that the atmosphere was "perfect". But one night put everything in prospective. Vincent enters his cab and changes everything. We later find out that Max's routine answer of being a cab driver "temporarily" is a lie. He has been doing it for 10 yrs. And now all those dreams will be lost because a contract killer has a gun pointing to his head. Vincent having been in Max's cab for a while made an accurate judgment of him. And with a gun to Max's head said "all it took was a down payment on one Limo" and he wouldn’t be in this situation.
- As Christians we do the same thing. We want God to be a genie in the bottle and grant us that wish of a blessing. When he blesses us with an idea to atain that blessing thru hard work we dismiss it quickly. God reminds us over and over to do something but we ignore it. And wonder why our blessing does not come. What is the need of faith in God if we need to wait till everything is perfect? If we could wait till everything is perfect there will be no need for God, because all we will have to do is wait out all of our problems. Unfortunately it does not happen that way. Let's not wait like Max did for a grim reminder that we are not doing what God wants us to do. I urge everyone reading this to act on ideas, dreams, and callings after prayer with God. First pray to God to make sure the idea is from him (God's ideas usually brings blessings to others as well and does not use trickery and lies to be effective). And after that prayer if the idea is still fresh on your heart pursue it. Know it won't be perfect but your consistency will improve it and it will be more of a blessing to others than if you never pursued it at all. God placed it in your heart for a reason. And that blessing will come if you work for it.
