Unseen blessings

Quite often we tend to forget the reward of being kind to our neighbors and doing right not because there is a reward but because we want to. This brings me to a true story of how blessings can come from a good deed, and how that blessing can go from generation to generation.

In Pleasantville USA a doctor makes a mistake in a hospital. Frightened but humbled the doctor approaches the nurse assisting him to aid him in fixing this specific problem. Instead of having a angry disposition or a demeanor of "Mr. high and mighty has finally fallen", she helped him and the situation ended up not being as major as he thought. The two became good friends. Years passed and the nurse’s daughter has dreams of wanting to go to medical school. The daughter has a passion for medicine and as a blessing her mother's doctor friend now sits on the board of one of the most prestigious medical schools in the US. He counsels the nurse’s daughter and relieves her of her fear of medical school as the nurse relieved him of his fear of his mistake years ago.

Imagine how differently this story would have been if either the doctor or nurse approached the situation differently. If the doctor was not humble and asked for help the simple problem could have became major in minutes. And if the nurse did not help the doctor her daughter probably would have not had the counseling she needed to get over her fear of being accepted into medical school.

As you read this true story remember that Christ wants us to love our neighbors. We so often miss our blessings because ego comes into place. So instead of thinking we can do everything let's be humble enough to ask. And when asked let's be humble enough to serve rather than feel high and mighty since we believe we know more. If we lose ego and add Christ's love, then the blessings will continue to flow within our lives from generation to generations.
